🖱 How the worlds work 點樣玩
- Click anything. Its English word is said, then Hank and Cooper talk about it with Mum, Dad or a helper.
- 📖 Words shows every word with its picture. A green ✓ means your child has heard it,
and a 💬 that your child has said it in 💬 What's this? without help.
- 👀 Look goes to the next place. 🔄 Reset view goes back to the start.
- 🔊 Sound turns the world's sounds on or off. The talk always speaks.
- 🔍 Find it! is a game: a voice asks for a thing, your child finds it and clicks it. A wrong click names
what was clicked; 💡 gives a hint (the picture, then a ring, then the camera goes there). Five finds make a round.
- 💬 What's this? is the other game, for saying words. The camera goes to a thing, a ring and a “?” go on it,
and a voice asks “What's this?”. Your child says the word out loud and you judge: press ✅ Said it!
(or the space bar). 💡 (or H) says the word for your child to say back, then ✅ again; ⏭ (or N) goes on.
Five things make a round.
- On the talk card: 🔊 Again, ⏸ Pause, ⏭ Next line (one line at a time), 🔽 makes it small,
and you can drag it by its top.
🤝 Play together, 10 to 20 minutes 一齊玩
- Sit side by side. Let your child choose and click. Follow what interests them.
- Pause and wait. When Hank or Cooper asks a question, press ⏸ and count to five in your head.
Give your child the first chance to answer.
- Say it back, a little longer. Child: “Bear!” You: “Yes, a big brown bear!”
- Ask one more question.
“What's this?” “Where is the duck?”
“A cow says …?” “What happened?”
“Do we have a spoon at home?”
- Take turns. “Your turn: find the tractor!” Then let your child ask you.
- Play 🔍 Find it! Hearing a word and finding the thing is the best practice there is. Let your child
point first, and wait before you help: the game gives its own hints, slowly.
- Then play 💬 What's this? Saying a word is harder than finding it. Count to five before you press 💡, and
give a ✅ for every real try: “nana” for banana counts. The game then says the word the right way, so there is no
need to correct your child.
- Stop while it is still fun. Say bye-bye to the world and talk about one thing you saw.
In the 🔬 science worlds every experiment step starts with 🤔 What do you think?: your child taps
one of two or three pictures, then watches what really happens. ✓ means the guess was right; 😮 Surprise! means
it was not, and that is just as good: being surprised is what makes children remember why. Before they tap, ask
“Why do you think so?”. ▶ Just watch skips the question.

Children learn words best by using them with you in real life. For every world there are picture cards to print
and three things to do at home or outside.

- 🌱 First words: 5 worlds, 276 words. The things most children learn to say first (from the Wordbank
studies of thousands of children), with short talks.
- 🌿 More words: 7 worlds, 348 words that children use between about 3 and 5, with longer talks, why and
because, and a helper in each world.
- 🔬 Science: 6 worlds, one machine each (rocket, aeroplane, boat, helicopter, submarine, train), with a
🔬 Experiment that asks for a guess before every step, and ➡️ Forces.
The levels are a guide, not an age limit. Many children enjoy the first words again after the others.
⏱ How much screen time? 螢幕時間
- Under 2 years: the World Health Organization recommends no sedentary screen time before age 2. The American
Academy of Pediatrics suggests only video calls before 18 months, and from 18 to 24 months only good content,
watched together.
- 2 to 5 years: no more than one hour a day in total (less is better), ideally together with a grown-up.
The worlds work best as something you talk about together, not as something to watch alone.
ℹ️ Good to know 小提示
- Open the worlds in Chrome or Safari on a tablet or a computer. On a phone they are small and may be slow.
- What has been heard, found and said, the Sound setting and where you put the talk card are kept in this browser
only, and never sent anywhere.
- The worlds never listen: in 💬 What's this? you are the judge, and the microphone is never used.
- On the website, visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics: no cookies and nothing personal.
